Introduction.
DebtBusters approached us in early 2016 with the need to increase the organic traffic coming to their website.
They engaged in our services in April 2016 and we’ve been working on their account ever since.
Success Drivers
A number of years have been dedicated to the DebtBusters website, isolating all the strategies and tasks that we used would make this case study too longer. Below are some of the major factors:
- Foundation Cleanup – When we started working on the website, there were a number of technical issues with the website. We spent the better part of 2016 working through a lot of technical issues, increasing the crawlability of the website, setting up goals and creating an environment ripe and ready for building upon. Ensuring that the foundation was completely optimised made a big difference and the website grew by 30% when compared to the previous year.
- Keyword Positioning – Once the foundation was optimised, our next step was to position the website correctly for various keywords and variations thereof. This involved meta data rewrites, internal linking strategies, anchor text weighting and an assortment of strategies for the content team. The organic traffic to their website increased by 50% when comparing 2017 to 2016!
- Maintenance – Having grown the organic traffic by 80% across the first two years, we needed to sustain this without pulling on more and more resources from the team. We continued to work on keyword positioning, content production, analytics analysis and a long list of other tasks. We maintained the new in flow of organic traffic and actually increased it by a further 15%
- Other – We played a big part in explaining how content needs to be produced on the website, how evergreen content works, how assets may be created out of content, opt-in processes, content culling, website migrations, etc. All of these strategies were used to keep the website performing well from an organic traffic point of view but also ensuring that the website was ranking prominently for a wide variety of key terms.
All the steps we took were underpinned by deep competitor research which revealed the top 4 industry leaders and this allowed us to understand not only what Google expected within this vertical but also what the industry leaders lacked.
Outcome
Following all the growth over the years, the most recent results are:
- The conversion rate of organic traffic increased by 16% when comparing 2019 to 2018.
- The number of conversions increased by 11% when comparing 2019 to 2018.
- The website ranked for very few terms in 2016, this was quickly resolved but comparing 2019 against 2018, the website is ranking for more terms than ever before.
