A couple of weeks ago we mentioned that Google was planning the rollout of Penguin 2.0. That day has come and we are already seeing some big changes to the search engine results pages. This rollout, which is not
only a data refresh, is the fourth Penguin update and has been said to affect roughly 2.3% of English-US based search queries.
If you have a website and you’re using it as a marketing tool to attract people from search engines, then you said me up to date with Google’s algorithm announcements. If Penguin, Panda, EMD and the likes don’t mean anything to you, it’s probably a good time to do some research. Here are some useful resources to get you started:
Here’s a quick reminder of the various Penguin updates that have been launched:
- Penguin 1 on April 24, 2012 (impacting ~3.1% of queries)
- Penguin 2 on May 26, 2012 (impacting less than 0.1%)
- Penguin 3 on October 5, 2012 (impacting ~0.3% of queries)
- Penguin 4 (2.0) on May 22, 2013 (impacting 2.3% of queries)
Along with the launch of Penguin 2.0 came as tool by Google that allows you to report websites that you feel are ranking that shouldn’t be. If someone’s stealing your organic clicks through black hat methods, this is your chance to report them.
